Finding the perfect indoor basketball – a lot of factors to consider
Material
There are two basic materials for indoor use: composite leather and genuine leather (forget about rubber basketballs).
- Basketballs from composite leather: softer than rubber, makes dribbling and shooting much more enjoyable, provide better grip. But these balls are less durable and can be slippery.
- Genuine leather balls much more expensive but it is ideal for comfort while playing. It may be a little difficult to handle when they are new, but after a few days the ball control and feeling are unrivaled.
Grip
Some basketballs have a moisture reducing surface designed to absorb your sweat as you play, giving you a lot more control. Also, look at the width of the channels and the depth of the grooves – they can give your fingertips additional grip.
Cost
Don’t pick up a basketball for less than $20. A good standard indoor basketball can start from $30, but the official tournament ball will cost you at least $55.
Color
I recommend you to buy an orange basketball. Orange is brighter than dark brown, making it easier for players to see the basketball and improve their gameplay. But you can choose any color you like.
